19th Century Portrait Of A Man With Flagon. Oil On Canvas. Books - NatureA 19th century oil on canvas depicting a man leaning against a pillar before a leaded window with a flagon at his feet. The subject looks melancholic, holding his hat to his chest with slumped shoulders and a somewhat defeated standing pose. The leaded window, gothic archway and light streaming from a source to the right indicating a larger window suggests the setting may be within a church. The work has a some craquelure and high gloss varnish

Small ink inscription to the flyleaf of Volume I together with some pencil inscriptions and an ink stamp

The oil is painted on canvas with an ornate gilt frame
